MAiD Positive
At Journey Home, we fully support an individual’s constitutional right to choose
Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD).
It is a legal and medically regulated option in Canada, and we believe that empowered dying
means knowing all your options and having access to them without judgment.

We provide a safe, supportive space for those considering or choosing MAiD, offering
compassionate guidance, advocacy, and ceremony planning.

Your end-of-life journey should reflect your values, your voice, and your right to choose.
In June 2016, the Parliament of Canada passed federal legislation allowing eligible adults to request medical assistance in dying (MAiD).
Persons who wish to receive MAID must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Be 18 years of age or older and have decision-making capacity
• Eligible for publicly funded healthcare services
• Make a voluntary request that is not the result of external pressure
• Give informed consent to receive MAID, meaning that the person has consented to receive MAID after they have received all information needed to make this decision
• Have a serious and incurable illness, disease or disability (excluding a mental illness until March 17, 2027)
• Be in an advanced state of irreversible decline in capability
• Have enduring and intolerable physical or psychological suffering that cannot be alleviated under conditions the person considers acceptable

Journey Home Sanctuary Vision
At Journey Home, we envision a world where no one faces death alone, afraid, or unsupported.
The Journey Home Sanctuary will be a first-of-its-kind space in Hamilton, Ontario, offering a peaceful and inclusive refuge where individuals can access compassionate, holistic support at the end of life.
Whether choosing Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) or preparing for a natural death, this sanctuary will honour the full spectrum of human experience with dignity, presence, and care.

Our vision is rooted in love, equity, and a sense of belonging. This home will be a place where grief and gratitude can coexist, where medical care and soul care meet, and where people of all identities, cultures, and beliefs are welcomed with open hearts.

We imagine:
-
Private, home-like rooms for individuals receiving MAiD
-
Space for ceremony, ritual, and remembrance, co-created by the dying and their loved ones
-
Supportive programming in death literacy, grief care, and community healing
-
Culturally sensitive, trauma-informed care delivered by trained death doulas and volunteers
-
Gardens and sacred outdoor spaces to reflect, release, and remember
-

The Sanctuary will be a place where death is not a medical event, but a sacred, human experience.

We are currently raising funds to bring this vision to life. With your support, we will transform this dream into a home where people can come to die on their terms, surrounded by beauty, dignity, and love.

Help us MAiD a Home.
Together, we can change how our community experiences the end of life.
